5/3/1: Cycle 9 – 3s Week: Bench Press (210 x 2 Stall): 11/8/12

Cycle 9 – 3s Week: BP: 11/8/12

Had the night off from work last night and ended up staying up for about ~30 hours before I passed out and took a short nap before I finally slept for 8 solid hours!
Arrived at the gym feeling good from my White Flood despite being on a fast (8/10).
Amazingly enough I felt alert and focused throughout the session and afterwards.
I did had to leave early due to other real life demands and not able to finish all my assistance work.

It is looking like I will need to deload all, if not most, of my lifts by start of cycle 10.
Funny thing is I am actually looking forward to a deload on most of my lifts.
I have been pushing hard for almost a year now and this is probably just what I need to go pass my wall!

I also read an interesting post by Jim Wendler that I may incorporate starting with Cycle 10 and a deload will probably make it progress better.
The article is called: 5/3/1 and Singles: A Simple and Different Approach.
The short of it is that I will be performing my Training Max for that lift at the end of the 5/3/1 sets for a single.
I find it interesting and want to see how I will perform doing that and a deload next cycle I think will help.

Otherwise a decent session despite the stall.
My hips also was noted to be slightly tight and sore so I tried mostly doing the Agile 8 as my Dynamic Stretches.

Lessons …

Lessons …

I have followed Jim Wendler’s articles since I stumbled upon strength training a few years ago. He has much knowledge that I find useful and a wicked sense of humor.

The other day I just read a new article he wrote that I find really well written and inspiring which I wanted to share. The article is called: “Mentoring Wendler” and can be found at T-Nation.com.

I just would like to highlight some lessons that I find great in this article.

Lessons:

  • When someone that is better than you gives you advice, listen. Don’t ask questions.
  • Lift to get strong, jump to be fast – don’t do anything unnecessary.
  • Control the things you have control over; don’t worry about the rest.
  • You have to earn the right to be mentored.
  • Your goals and your life are your own; true freedom is not allowing others to make them for you.

If you have not read the article then you may not understand the lessons. So take a couple of minutes and read it!

This article makes so much sense to me and hits home in so many levels. It may make sense to some and to those that don’t … oh well.

New Workout Program: Wendler’s 5/3/1

New Year and I will be starting a new training program to build strength and improve myself.
I completed 12 weeks of Mad Cow Intermediate and probably would do well with another cycle or two of it but I really wanted to try 5/3/1 by Jim Wendler. Also hoping that with this new program I will spend less time at the gym and more with my family.

Week 9: Workout A (Day 30 of Transformation Challenge)

Week 9: 7/4/11

Celebrated the morning of Independence Day with good Stronglifts 5×5!
Some weird reason I still have tightness coming from my hip/groin area. Still unsure how I got it but I think I may need extra mobility exercises to get rid of them this week.
I was kinda iffy on today’s squat but was happy to set another PR! From this day forth, unless I stall, it will be constant PRs!
Also realizing more from today’s session that my back is stronger than my chest. That or I really need to work on my form on the bench press to be able to do the lift better.
Otherwise it was a GREAT workout session!

Also, I have been getting a few people asking what program I am doing lately!
I just tell them I am doing Stronglifts 5×5 and tell them to check it out themselves! (I was actually kinda hesitant to tell them because I don’t want more people using the ONLY Power Cage in the gym that not many people use often!)
Also I tell them about Starting Strength as it also has great info in it.
